Video from 1212odlanyer showing the initial attack during a fire yesterday afternoon at 635 Laurel St., near the Fair Oaks Children’s Clinic and Hoover Community School in Redwood City, California.

Bonnie Eslinger, Daily News:

The Redwood City Fire Department and Menlo Park Fire Protection District responded to the blaze and extinguished it, Redwood City fire Battalion Chief Daniel Abrams said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately evident, but it quickly spread through a studio apartment on the second floor, said Menlo Park Battalion Chief Ben Marra.

“The fire was in one apartment but it spread into the attic so we had to get into the unit next to it and open the ceilings up,” Marra said. “There are about three, four units that are damaged.”

Is there a quality of training in California that a bunch of the rest of the country isn’t getting? How come we have two CA depts getting it right on these videos, and so many others elsewhere who don’t? Really nice to see good work. Kudos from this Statter KIC!!

How come we see good tactics from California, but not a lot from the rest of the country? Are they doing training that the rest of us aren’t getting? Kudos to Redwood City from this Statter911 KIC!!

    It’s California, that’s why.

We know how to fight fire.

1st. Yes good, quick job well done by Redwood City and Menlo Park FD’s.

2nd FOB can “Gloat” some, but we do use ICS on every incident so we’re not behind the “Power Curve” when we get the “Big one”, because we’ve practiced on the “little one’s”.

3rd. The FD’s in the San Mateo County area are All on the same “Playbook” page. Years ago, they “dropped the boundaries” so a closer Foster City Engine can go to a San Mateo Medical Assist automatically and so on.
