Chilliwack Progress:

Firefighters from four halls in Chilliwack were called in to battle a house fire on Chilliwack Mountain that threatened to spread to neighbouring homes Wednesday afternoon.

The fire, which started in a three-car garage in the 8600 block of Sunrise Drive, had already spread to the home when firefighters arrived.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Ian Josephson, the owner had arrived home to find smoke coming from his garage. He attempted to fight the fire, but then decided to get his two children out of the house and call 9-1-1.

The garage was fully-involved when fire crews arrived, with the fire extending across the cedar-shake roof and into the two-storey home.
