(Thanks, as always, to Matt Tomlins for passing along the video from Moscow.)

The video above posted by FromRussiaWithLols shows how firefighters in Moscow handled a cat in the tree call in recent days. In the video, the stream hit the cat and the cat hit the ground, running off in a hurry.

Now, let us switch to the U.S. version of the same scenario. The best we can tell from reading Maryland’s Bel Air Patch, the Joppa-Magnolia VFC in Harford County employed a similar technique on a cat in a tree call, but the results weren’t quite the same. A woman named Ellen Womer put a post on the publication’s opinion boards on Wednesday titled “Firefighters Cruelly shoot water at stranded cat and kill it”. According to Womer, the cat had been in the tree for three-days:

The cat was 50 feet up the tree when the powerful stream of water dislodged the poor cat from the tree trunk and it fell, hitting several branches on the way to the ground- It died shortly after- WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??????

But that is only Womer’s version of the story. In the comments section we learn of what is identified as the response on Facebook from a lieutenant with the fire company:

This was our third “cat rescue” in 3 days. We tried everything possible to get this cat out of the tree including two of our guys almost injuring themselves. I have personally used a hose multiple times to remove a cat from a tree without endangering our own people and have never had a result even close to this. Its a cat, they land and they are fine. The owner was explained this method and the obvious risks involved with it and still wanted us to proceed. We have been in contact with the owner who has no hard feelings towards the fire company and we even offered to go a buy him a new cat if that’s what he pleased. This was done by a nosey neighbor who has nothing better to do with her time. I mean, everyone loves a good story even if its only one side…lol
