Two dogs were rescued from a house fire in Portsmouth Friday afternoon.

Crews arrived at the home in the 3600 block of Angler Street just after 3 p.m. to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor.

Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen then spread to the second floor.

    Never understand departments that use a company on the initial assingment as RIT.  There's a hundred better things that company could be used for that early in the incident- things that would make needing a RIT that much less likely, btw.  RIT should be a seperate dispatch.
