WHEC-TV:

Hundreds of first responders turned out for a pre-dawn vigil to remember the two West Webster firefighters who were killed one year ago today.

Firefighters, police and emergency medical personnel joined the families of Lt. Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka at the Christmas Eve morning vigil held on Lake Road, the scene of last year's ambush attack. Chiapperini and Kaczowka were shot and killed in the attack. Firefighters Ted Scardino and Joseph Hofstetter were wounded in the attack.

About 500 people helped dedicate the memorial on Sunday behind the West Webster Fire Station #1. It includes a metal sculpture of a firefighter and a stone tablet etched with the names of four fallen West Webster firefighters.
