Is this what they mean by hands only CPR? Warning this video is not for everyone.

I know I've been out of fire and EMS for decades and I know things have changed. Is this really the standard of care for reviving an unconscious person or is just the consolation prize for the loser of the fight?

It doesn't look like he came to before they moved him out of the arena.

Again, this video is not for everyone.

Ummm. Hmmm. Yeah…words escape me. I've got nothing, other than…

    WTF?!?!?!?

  • MAEMTB

    …Oh dear.

  • LTMP

If my department switches to that technique, I RESIGN….

That technique must be in the Obamacare law somewhere…

  • HOOKMAN

Looked like the ratio here for 2 person CPR is, 15 jerks:2 belly rubs..

  • puzzled

They're just giving the guy a hand.

But really Dave, if I wanted to witness something like this, I'd take a ride down Montrose Blvd in Houston.

  • on the job

I hope everything was a …happy ending, LOL.

  • Fire21

Well, the warning simply didn't prepare me for that!!

    • dave statter

Sorry. I tried. I thought it would be rude to describe what you were about to see.

      • Fire21

That's OK Dave, I'm an adult.  I was prepared for something, but just never imagined anything to match what we saw!  LOL.  Bit of "OMG, they're doing what it looks like!!"

@ Puzzled, you made me smile.

I once saw an old medical director do something like this at a single MVA rollover to check for "an abdominal bleed." I was a brand new EMT, volunteering in college, and wasn't up to speed on BTLS algorithims so I just watched with my jaw on the ground. This video is unique. I think this is a great way to check for distal pulse, capillary refill, and to clear c-spine all in one. I have to hand it to these guys.

This technique looks about as effective as the old school way of shoving ice down a heroin junkie's pants when they o.d'd.  The dude in the blue tee shirt seemed to be enjoying his work.

  • Truck Company

    He really took a beating.

  • ShamrockDriver

And to think all these years I've been raising the FEET up.  Who would have thunk I needed to go half way up and raise something else.  Hey…I think I'm feeling a little faint.

So THAT'S what happens when we show up and the OD is all wet…  Anyone notice the dude wearing the gloves was patting the guy on the head and the life saver wasn't wearing any?

  • IndustrialFF

    Differnt strokes for different folks!
