Jefferson Squad 8 was due on the first alarm assisting Clearfield Company 29 with a working structure fire on Bethlehem Hill Rd. Upon arrival Squad 8’s crew went offensive with 1.75″ line while other crews began to open up the structure from the outside. After all visible fire was knocked down the crew was relieved by mutual aid who finished the overhaul.

Thanks to a cat, a Mahaffey woman is safe today, but her house is being deemed a total loss.

Lorraine Heinz was sleeping when her cat woke her up by licking her on the face. Once Heinz was awakened she realized her smoke alarms were sounding. She woke up and discovered her home at 667 Bethlehem Hill Road was on fire. She was able to escape with her cat and called 911.

Dan Wright, fire chief of Community Volunteer Fire Co. of Mahaffey, said when he arrived on scene he had heavy smoke and fire from the back of the home. He said when firefighters were arriving, the flames had worked through the floor from the basement and were spreading rapidly.
