Explosion levels part of condo complex in Ewing, NJ – 10 injured

Officials say an explosion sparked a major fire which is burning at a condo complex in Mercer County, New Jersey.

The fire was reported shortly before 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the Heritage Crossing Development on Crockett Lane in Ewing Township.

Police tell Action News that a private crew was working in the area when a worker struck a gas line, causing the explosion.  PSE&G was immediately called to the scene.

WTXF-TV:

The location is reported to be Crockett Lane in Ewing, and multiple units are ablaze.

At least 10 injuries are reported, and several ambulances have been called to the scene.

The incident, which was quickly escalated to two alarms, has prompted a response from rescue agencies in multiple surrounding towns and across the Delaware River.

Multiple reports of burn injuries are being reported from the scene.

The local gas company, PSE&G, confirms that it responded to a report that a gas line was damaged by a contractor at 28 Crockett Lane right before the explosion. “Crews were working on repairs when there was an ignition,” said PSE&G spokeswoman Lindsey Puliti. Two gas workers are among the injured.
