Adam Wagner, StarNewsOnline.com:

The fire began in a garage at 621 Hadley Court before jumping to a nearby house at 625 Hadley Court and causing some spotting in a backyard in the 100 block of South Crestwood Drive, said Deputy Chief Frank Meyer of New Hanover County Fire and Rescue.

It took about five minutes for the fire to spread from the garage where it began to the house next door, Hardee said, aided by high winds.

Once firefighters arrived on the scene, a New Hanover County firefighter was injured when a wire fell off 621 Hadley Court and struck him, Meyer said. He added the firefighter was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and “they think he may be released tonight.”

WECT-TV:

An elderly disabled woman was rescued from her burning home on Hadley Court in Wilmington Monday afternoon following what neighbors described as an explosion in her garage.

Flames spread to a neighboring home, engulfing the roof of 625 Hadley Court as firefighters worked to battle the blaze and dozens of onlookers snapped photos with their phones. Fire officials said the home appeared to be a total loss. Embers from the fire also burned the yard of a house on South Crestwood Road.

Video sent to the WECT newsroom shows a firefighter being injured by a falling power line on the scene. The Wilmington Fire Department has not provided any details about the condition of the firefighter, who was transported to the hospital.

WWAY-TV:

The only person hurt was a firefighter. A New Hanover County Spokesman says a firefighter was hit by an electrical wire and taken to the hospital for observation. He says the firefighter is looking well and should be released soon.
