Video above from Mshawty18s taken at Monday’s four-alarm fire in Paterson, New Jersey where a mayday was called after a firefighter fell into the basement. At 1:52 in the video you will see firefighters exiting the building as the mayday is cleared with the firefighter brought out to safety.

Below is radio traffic from the fire by Fire Gound Recordings. The mayday is on Part 2 starting at 24:07.

Josh Einiger, WABC-TV:

It started around 5:30 Monday afternoon in the multifamily house on 23rd Street at 10th Avenue, and there was no stopping the blaze as it spread to a neighboring building.

“Minutes, within minutes, we could have possibly lost a firefighter, or lost a crew,” said Glenn Brown, the Paterson Fire Director.

An entire company of Paterson firefighters was just minutes from certain death after one fell and crashed through first floor into the burning basement.

“And those firefighters had to stop their fire suppression and quickly go into rescue mode to pull out their comrade who was in the basement,” Brown said.

They all made it out alive.
