KXTV-TV:

A former Cal Fire battalion chief who eluded capture for more than two weeks has been arrested for the murder of his girlfriend.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department arrested Orville “Moe” Fleming, 55, Friday near where his pickup truck was abandoned in Elk Grove, family and law enforcement sources said. The sheriff’s department issued the following statement:

“Sacramento County Sheriff Homicide Detectives have confirmed that Orville “Moe” Fleming, wanted for the murder of Sarah Douglas in their Sacramento home on May 1st, has been found alive and is currently in Sheriff’s custody. More updates will be available soon.”

KCRA-TV:

Orville “Moe” Fleming was hiding out in some dense vegetation not far from where his Cal Fire-issued truck was found in the wake of Sarah Douglas’ death, Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones said at an evening news conference.

A detective in the South Sacramento-Elk Grove area spotted a man who he thought looked like Fleming, and followed him.

The man boarded a local bus, so the detective followed.

Finally, the detective approached the man and asked for his name. He identified himself as Fleming, said he didn’t want to make a scene, and was arrested without incident around noon.

Fleming wasn’t armed.

Homicide detectives have interviewed Fleming, who’s admitted he is responsible for the deadly stabbing.
