Raw video & radio traffic: FDNY at fatal 4-alarm fire in Manhattan

WABC-TV:

A fire Monday evening that killed one person at a Hamilton Heights apartment building is being considered suspicious.

The deceased victim was found inside the building. It is unclear if the victim was a man or a woman, but firefighters said the victim was likely trying to escape down the stairs inside and was overcome with smoke.

The incident is being investigated. “It traveled up the stairs very quickly,” said New York City Fire Department Commissioner Daniel Nigro. “We deemed it suspicious.”

WCBS-TV:

One person was killed, and 12 more were injured, when an extra-alarm fire broke out Monday evening in an apartment building in Hamilton Heights.

The fire broke out around 5:45 p.m. in the six-story building at 512 W. 136th St., near Amsterdam Avenue and close to the City College campus, fire officials told CBS 2.

The fire was later raised to a third alarm, and fire officials have now deemed the blaze suspicious.
