Firefighters extinguished a blaze in a home at 319 Ben’s Way near U.S. 50 on Wednesday afternoon when crews battled smoke and flames in Fernley, where the homeowner was charged.

Homeowner Michael Hand, 66, of Fernley was arrested on first-degree arson, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Circumstances leading to the arrest were not immediately known.
