According to a statement from the Belleville Fire Department, it received a call just after 10 a.m. reporting that smoke was billowing the second floor of a two-story brick apartment building at 27 King Street.
When firefighters arrived, they found police officers trying to help a male tenant in the building’s stairwell, which was filling with smoke. They were able to get the man outside, where they discovered he had been burned and called for an ambulance.
