Firefighters found themselves pitted against flames and freezing temperatures Thursday night as they battled a Salisbury Township business fire.

The business, National Automated Solutions at 820 Public Road, was gutted in the fire, owner Douglas Palenchar said Friday. Firefighters worked hard to save the two-story structure, but the weather made their job harder than usual, he said.

Water used to douse the three-alarm blaze turned into ice on the ground, which made navigating the property difficult, Palenchar said. It was the same story Friday morning when crews returned to extinguish a flare-up, he said.
