What’s that saying? You play with fire …

This was the scene yesterday (Sunday) afternoon in Philadelphia. A fire-breather almost took his last breath and possibly took some other people with him as he set fire to himself and the convention center.

WCAU-TV:

Jeff Hurd and his wife Alice Gibson attended the Philadelphia Tattoo Arts Convention at the Pennsylvania Convention Center Sunday and watched a fire-breathing performance from the Ink Illusionists.

As the performer blew fire, flames suddenly engulfed his entire body and spread to the floor. The fire breather was able to put the flames out while event organizers quickly extinguished the fire on the floor by flipping a table on it.

Gibson told NBC10 the whole incident happened so fast that many members of the audience thought it was part of the show. The Philadelphia Fire Department did not respond since the flames were put out so quickly and with minimal damage, according to Hurd.

I have a few questions after viewing this.

  • What talent is there to fire breathing that it is even a thing?
  • How is this allowed inside a public assembly building?
  • Who is in charge of safety at the Pennsylvania Convention Center to allow this?
  • Has the Philadelphia Fire Department (or other authority) cited the Philadelphia Convention Center for allowing this

The “performer” apparently did not require hospitalization.
