Angela Case, KXRM-TV:

A man was found dead at the scene of a house fire in Colorado Springs Thursday morning.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department said the fire broke out around 8 a.m. at a home at 2414 Tahoe Boulevard. That’s in the area of Airport Road and Circle Drive in southeastern Colorado Springs. Firefighters arrived within two minutes, and the fire was knocked down by 9:20 a.m.

Shortly before the fire, dispatch received a call from “a distraught individual who threatened to take his own life and start his house on fire,” according to police. Witnesses said they heard shots fired in the area before the fire started.

Firefighters and police arrived to find a deceased man in the yard next to the side of the house. Firefighters said the death was not caused by the fire.

Jesse Paul, The Denver Post:

First responders found a man dead and a home on fire. Police say the bomb squad has been called to the home after possible improvised explosive devices were found there.

“The home was on fire when officers and firefighters arrived,” police said. “After ensuring the exterior of the area was safe, firefighters addressed the house fire.”

Residences in the immediate area of the home have been evacuated while first responders work to mitigate any explosive hazards, according to police.
