Apparent MRI machine explosion tears through roof of NJ animal hospital

Two electricians were taken to the hospital this afternoon after an MRI machine they were working on exploded at the Oradell Animal Hospital in Paramus.

The MRI machine was new and being installed, according to a worker at the facility.
 
A search and rescue team worked with Paramus firefighters, police and EMS to ensure no one was trapped inside the building. Hackensack and Clifton firefighters also responded.

Dogs, cats and one bird were evacuated from the hospital, and several animals that were already in critical care were transferred to other hospitals, he said.

Shortly after noon, about 60 people were gathered in the hospital’s parking lot along with several dogs. The staff brought animals out of the building, some on leashes, some carried in blankets and some in moving cages or hand crates.
