Open microphone comments still being dealt with in Aurora, CO

Remember the case last month of the comments a lieutenant made about two women employees of Colorado’s Aurora Fire Department that were broadcast over the fire department radio system? The latest is the investigation is completed, the lieutenant is retiring and an EMT who was the subject of one of the remarks has not been back to work.

Russsell Haythorn, KMGH-TV:

The City of Aurora’s internal investigation is complete, concluding there was misconduct. But, it’s still unclear what, if any, punishment was handed down.

It all started with this derogatory comment a lieutenant made about the female EMT as they rolled up to an emergency: “(Name of victim) the department bicycle. Everyone gets to ride her (laughs)”

“The statements made are not only totally outrageous but completely false,” said (EMT’s attorney Paul) Maxon. “Those false things that were said about her live on forever. So, it’s really a terrible situation for her.”

It’s unclear what kind of discipline the fire lieutenant faced. Instead he’s opting to retire June 5.
