New details on ladder truck fail during recertification in Clymer, PA

The safety officer of the Clymer Volunteer Fire Company 1 in Indiana County, Pennsylvania is providing new details about Monday’s accident involving the department’s 1977 American Lafrance ladder truck. Mike Keith tells Sean Yoder at the Indiana Gazette that a Lancaster area man was conducting the yearly recertification required by the insurance carrier for the department when the incident occurred.

According to Keith, an outrigger on the driver’s side of the truck failed and the ladder collapsed on top of the man doing the inspection.

“At this point, the only person who knew what was going on was the victim,” Keith said by phone this morning. “No one else saw it.”
