A fire broke out at Serpe’s Bakery just after the shop closed at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Dozens of firefighters were on the scene Thursday night with a section of Kirkwood Highway closed off and smoke spreading across Elsmere.
Christmas Eve is the busiest day of the year for the family bakery, said Dominic Serpe, who owns the shop with his brothers. He had been there all day and was heading to church for services when he got the call about the fire – he showed up to the scene in a red oxford shirt.
Goodbye SERPES bakery!
