Thank you Riverside, CA Engine 6-C for showing us firefighters at their best
They may not have fought a fire this week or saved a life, but these firefighters with the City of Riverside Fire Department in California were heroes to at least one person and a very wonderful example of firefighters at their best.
In a simple but moving display of humanity, firefighters gave a pair of shoes to an elderly homeless man whom they saw walking barefoot on a freeway overpass in Riverside earlier this week.
The fire engine pulled over, and Firefighter David Gilstrap offered the tennis shoes he had with him, according to a post on the agency’s Facebook page.
