Kellie Scott, ABC:

A photograph of a Country Fire Authority (CFA) volunteer breastfeeding her baby is inspiring other mums to join the service.

The post on the CFA Facebook page aimed at demonstrating the diversity of the service in the lead up to Australia Day has garnered a huge reaction, receiving more than 20,000 likes, 1,600 shares and 800 comments – and those numbers are rapidly climbing.

CFA chief executive Lucinda Nolan said the online reaction had been hugely positive.

“It’s an image not usually associated with firefighting so we wanted to use it as a way to breakdown people’s perception of our workforce and what our organisation stands for today,” she said.

“The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, which is what we expected.”
