An off-duty Orange City, Florida firefighter-paramedic was one of two people who tried to help a stabbing victim Sunday and were seriously injured. The firefighter and a nurse were run over by a car driven by the victim’s husband who went on to kill the couple’s two children and himself. The stabbing victim, Chericia Brown, also died.

The incident happened at a Chilis restaurant in Lake Mary.

Caroline Dorton, the firefighter-paramedic who has been with the Orange City Fire Department since 2009, is in the hospital in serious but stable condition after she and an unidentified nurse helped the attacked woman, Chericia Brown. They were hit by a car driven by Brown’s estranged husband, Seminole County Sheriff’s officials said.

The husband, 30-year-old Henry Brown, saw the firefighter-paramedic and the nurse rendering aid to 31-year-old Chericia Brown just after 10 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Lake Mary Chili’s.

The firefighter is a mother of two daughters, and had been eating at the Chili’s when the attack happened.

Later that night, investigators said Henry Brown also killed his two children and then himself as part of a triple-murder, suicide.
