Is this real? Texas mattress store with tacky Twin Towers sale ad

Previously: Day after our column we now know first company getting slammed for wrapping itself in 9/11

Despite lots of news coverage in Texas and beyond I’m finding it hard to believe the ad above is real and not some hoax to scam the news media. After writing my column yesterday (Wednesday) warning those who try to overtly profit off the 9/11 anniversary that they might find a great deal of scorn for doing so, this may be the tackiest 9/11 ad ever. Much tackier than the Walmart/Coke display that was removed this week from a Florida store (see here).

On top of pushing a Twin Towers Sale for twin mattresses, the ad from Miracle Mattress shows two mattresses standing in the back tumbling down at the end as the actors fall into it while yelling. Again, I can’t believe any company would want this to represent its brand. If true (I’m still not believing it), it’s truly amazing.

The apology from the store is below. The Facebook page also shows a Labor Day sale ad with some of the same “talent.” (Thanks to reader Patrick Dasey for sending this.)

KENS-TV:

A mattress store has apologized amid mounting social media criticism of a commercial advertising a 9/11 “Twin Towers” sale.

A video circulating on Facebook on Thursday shows a commercial from Miracle Mattress, which is located on Northwest Loop 410.

The commercial states: “Right now, you can get any size mattress for a twin price.” It is centered around the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

It also shows people in the commercial falling onto two stacks of mattresses, knocking them to the ground.
