Wilmington (DE) Fire Department Senior Firefighter Ardy Hope died today from injuries she received in the September 24 house fire that took the lives of Firefighter Jerry Fickes (l) and Lt. Christopher Leach. Fickes was posthumously promoted to lieutenant and Leach to the rank of captain.

Beatriz Fana-Ruiz, 27, is charged with setting that fire.

Amy Cherry, WDEL Radio:

Hope had been hospitalized at Crozer Medical Center suffering from burns over 70 percent of her body.

Public Information Officer Battalion Chief James Jobes released a statement on behalf of the Wilmington Fire Department shortly after Chief Goode’s announcement on Twitter.

“It is with a heavy heart that the Wilmington Fire Department announces the line of duty death of Senior Firefighter Ardythe Hope.

Firefighter Ardythe Hope is the 3rd line of duty death resulting from the September 24, 2016 Lakeview Road arson.”

WCAU-TV:

On October 13, Crozer-Chester Medical Center spokesman Grant Gegwich told The News Journal of Wilmington that Hope was downgraded to critical condition at the Upland, Pennsylvania hospital, where she was taken after the Sept. 24 fire.

She had been listed in critical but stable condition prior to that. Gegwich didn’t disclose what caused the change.
