New Jersey firefighter seriously injured in fall from responding engine

News reports indicate a Trenton firefighter was seriously injured today (Monday) after he fell out of Engine 9 while the rig was responding to a fire call. The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. as the apparatus rounded a curve on Parkside Avenue.

Kevin Shea, NJ.com:

Trenton Fire Director Qareeb Bashir and Trenton fire officers union President Steve Coltre confirmed the incident and injury, but complete details were still developing Monday night, they said.

The firefighter was taken to the trauma center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where he was being treated late Monday. Bashir and Coltre said it appears he will recover fully.

He said Engine 9 operates a “closed cab” piece of apparatus, with doors that obviously should securely lock and it appears like a freak accident, Coltre said.
