Robert “Rex” Morris, who became assistant chief of volunteer services in Stamford, Connecticut two years ago, was suspended for a week over safety violations when he fell through the floor at a house fire in January. Morris is a retired captain from FDNY’s Rescue Company 1 and the creator of the Rex Tool.

John Nickerson, Stamford Advocate:

Morris, 68, said he was not injured in the fall and was able to get himself out of the home unscathed.

Morris was the highest-ranking fire official at the blaze, according to a list of those who responded to the scene.

Morris said the accident occurred when he slipped on a board and fell through a hole in the floor. He said firefighters were removing debris from the home at the time of the fall and the blaze was nearly completely extinguished.
