Brittini Ray, Savannah Now:

Tybee Island Fire and Southside Fire responded to the blaze that started around 4 p.m. on Pelican Drive. One home was destroyed and two others were damaged, said Tybee Island Fire Chief Ashley Fields.

High winds and ammunition inside one of the homes intensified the fire and made it harder for firefighters, Fields said.

A lack of fire hydrants forced officials to turn to the adjoining Chimney Creek as a water source. A metro police chopper was seen throughout the evening pulling water up from the creek and dropping it over the flames.
