Alexandria (VA) Police report the gunman is in custody and no longer a threat after the shootings this (Wednesday) morning. Police report five people were injured. According to Alexandria Police Department Chief Michael Brown an active shooter was reported at 7:09 a.m. ET. Alexandria Police officers were on the scene within three minutes assisting U.S. Capitol Police Department officers who were on the scene when the shooting began.

Multiple people were injured in a shooting in Alexandria, Virginia, Wednesday morning.

CBS News has learned the shooting happened in the dugout at a field used for congressional baseball practice. Four people were shot and one congressman was shot in the hip.

A congressional source says the injured include two Capitol Hill police officers, the gunman and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, a Republican from Louisiana.
