KGW-TV:

Eight apartments burned and 16 cats perished after a large fire broke out Monday morning near Northeast 75th Avenue and Killingsworth Street at an auto salvage yard.

Crews continue to battle hot spots and expect to be on site until at least Tuesday morning. Investigators won’t be able to inspect the scene until at least Tuesday because of the heat and smoke.

A sixplex apartment building and a duplex near the property burned to the ground. Multiple families were displaced and 16 cats died inside the buildings, fire officials said. Some nearby homes and one school were evacuated.
