News report: Two FDNY firefighters killed in military helicopter crash in Iraq

Two FDNY members were among the seven US soldiers killed in a helicopter crash Thursday in Iraq, department sources told The Post.

Fire marshal Christopher “Tripp” Zanetis and Lt. Christopher Raguso were aboard the Pave Hawk military chopper that went down near al-Qaim, a town in western Iraq near the Syrian border, sources said.

Zanetis’s overwhelmed father confirmed the death Friday when reached by The Post.

The Commack Fire Department identified one of those victims in a Facebook post as New York Air National Guard Flight Engineer Christopher Raguso, who was an FDNY lieutenant and volunteered with the Commack Fire Department. The FDNY has not publicly confirmed Raguso’s identity, nor commented on the department deaths the sources told News 4 had perished.

“Chris was always there to help anyone with anything, he would never say no,” read the post on the Commack Fire Facebook page.
