Three different views of a rather bizarre incident in downtown Milwaukee on Monday. A man on a bike decided to take matters into his own hands and render safe a suspicious package. Police and FBI then render him safe.

WTMJ-TV:

A suspicious package investigation in downtown Milwaukee took an unexpected turn Monday when a bystander suddenly biked up to the item in question and began rummaging through it, prompting investigators to tackle him.

The backpack was reported shortly before 7 a.m. in the 100 block of W. Wisconsin Avenue on an electrical box, prompting a response by Milwaukee Police and the bomb squad.

Video shows the man crossing the police tape, walking up to the backpack and dumping out the contents.

The cyclist rode his bike past the police tape and into the intersection, at which point he dumped the contents of the backpack in the middle of the street. Water bottle, clothing, what appears to be a camping mattress pad were strewn about in the street.

He was quickly approached by three officers and tackled to the ground.

Milwaukee police said the FBI made the first contact with the cyclist. He was taken into custody by the FBI with assistance from Milwaukee police.
