Our condolences to our friends at Howard County (MD) Department of Fire and Rescue Services on the death of Firefighter Nate Flynn. Firefighter Flynn fell through the floor into the basement of a large home in Clarksville, Maryland around 2:20 this (Monday) morning. Fire department officials report that a mayday was called and RIT pulled Firefighter Flynn from the home at 2:42 a.m. The 13-year veteran was pronounced dead at Howard County General Hospital at around 5:30 a.m. Flynn was assigned to Station 10, Rivers Park in Columbia.

Firefighter Flynn had joined the Susquehanna Hose Company in Havre de Grace (Harford County) last year and had previously been a live-in member of the Seat Pleasant Volunteer Fire Company (Prince George’s County).

A Howard County firefighter has died after battling a house fire in Clarksville early Monday morning.

The firefighter, who was identified by the Maryland Secretary of State’s office as Nathan Flynn, fell through the floor while fighting a seven-alarm blaze on the 7000 block of Woodscape Drive. He was transported to Howard County General Hospital, where he died, according to Howard County fire spokesman Brad Tanner.

Howard County fire officials identified him as a 13-year veteran of the department. He was a Harford County resident, Harford County Executive Barry Glassman tweeted.

Crews were called around 2 a.m. Monday to Woodscape Drive for a fire.

The firefighter fell through second-floor of the home and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He died at hospital.

Three people reportedly made it out of the home safely.

The house is listed as the residence of Janet Siddiqui, who is running for Howard County Council, WBAL-TV 11 News has learned.

The fire likely started because of a lightning strike, officials said.
