The Nassau County Police Arson Bomb Squad Sunday charged a Bethpage firefighter in connection with starting five fires since June 2017.

Christopher Cordeiro, 20, of Bethpage, a member of the Bethpage Fire Department, was charged with third- and fourth-degree arson, two counts of fifth-degree arson, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to a Nassau County police news release.

Police say Christopher Cordeiro, 20, is responsible for five arsons over the last year, including fires at a shed and abandoned home.

-June 25, 2017 – Across from 25 Arthur Avenue – Molotov cocktail fire in a sump
-March 1, 2018 – 67 West Millpage Drive – Dumpster fire
-August 5, 2018 – 285 Stewart Avenue – Abandoned house fire
-August 10, 2018 – Next to 96 Broadway – Wooded area fire
-August 19, 2018 – 121 North Hermann Avenue – Shed fire

Cordeiro was arrested without incident at the Bethpage Fire House. He is charged with third-degree arson, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree arson and two counts of fifth-degree arson. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday.
