Conway, SC Firefighter Christopher Gene Ray struck by fire engine and dies
A Conway Firefighter is dead after responding to a house fire Sunday afternoon on Hickory Circle. Officials say the firefighter was struck by a fire engine, resulting in the death.
Conway Fire and Horry County Fire Rescue crews both responded to the fire.
Lt. Brian Van Aernem with Horry County Rescue confirmed serious injuries at that time. Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard later confirmed one firefighter death.
Christopher Gene Ray from Green Sea was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Chief Hendrick.
