Kentland Chief Removed from Chain of Command

I guess we have an answer to yesterday’s question, “Is it High Noon on Landover Road?”. 9News Now has confirmed with Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department spokesman Mark Brady that Kentland Volunteer Fire Department Chief Michael Mattison has been removed from the chain of command. Brady says Prince George’s County will no longer recognize Mattison as Chief 33.

According to Brady, Mattison now faces disciplinary action. This follows County Fire Chief Lawrence Sedgwick’s order that Kentland immediately begin providing ambulance service. Brady says Ambulance 339 is ready to go, but that Chief Sedgwick was notified by Kentland’s President, Sheila Mann, that the volunteers of Company 33 will not be staffing an ambulance.

According to Brady, Kentland’s deputy chief has now been notified that he will have a week to place Ambulance 339 in service or face a similar fate as Mattison.

9News Now reporter Gary Reals is working this story today. Both of us have been in touch with Kentland VFD officials trying to get their view on these developments. So far there has been no response.
