At a news briefing around 10:15 a.m. today, Worcester, Massacusettes Fire Chief Michael Lovie confirmed that 36-year-old Firefighter Christopher Roy from Ladder 4 died after becoming trapped during an early morning fire on Lowell Street.

Roy has been a Worcester firefighter for two and a half years and leaves a daughter behind.
The conditions of the fire deteriorated rapidly, Worcester Fire Chief Michael Lavoie said during a press conference around 10:15 a.m. Sunday.
The death comes one day after the anniversary of the death of Worcester firefighter Jon D. Davies Sr., who died fighting an apartment fire in Worcester on Dec. 8, 2011, and six says after the 19th anniversary of the Worcester Cold Store and Warehouse Co. fire, which claimed the lives of six firefighters.
The fire, at 7 Lowell St., was reported before dawn. The three-story building has six apartments. There were no reported injuries of residents.
As firefighters battled flames, the situation worsened, and crews were ordered out of the building.
“Conditions deteriorated rapidly,” the chief said.
Two firefighters, including firefighter Roy, were rescued by their colleagues.
“Fire crews were heroic in efforts to rescue colleagues under extreme conditions,” the chief said.
