Check this out: Not your average restaurant grease fire in Midtown Manhattan

Video above by  Regina Rossi and below by Mike Thies of some interesting fireworks Friday evening on the roof of the TGI Fridays on 5th Avenue at 48th Street near Rockefeller Center in Manhattan. The fire started in the basement kitchen of the six story building and appears to have spit fire as high as five stories above the roof line. Of course everything is bigger in New York, including grease fires.

WABC-TV:

A 3-alarm fire broke out at the TGI Fridays in the heart of Midtown at 604 5th Avenue at 48th Street on Friday night.

According to the FDNY, the fire started around 9 p.m. in the restaurant’s basement and traveled through the building’s duct work six floors to the roof.

New York Daily News:

Well over 125 firefighters were dispatched to douse the blaze, which was rendered under control by 10:30 p.m.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury fighting the blaze, an FDNY spokesman said.

The restaurant and the duct work were damaged by smoke and flames, but the rest of the building, which has offices and residential units above the restaurant, seemed unscathed, the spokesman said.
