Video and radio traffic, above, from Mike Villanova (homer218) taken during yesterday’s (Sunday) multi-alarm fire at a townhouse complex in New Milford, New Jersey. Evacuation of the building is ordered at about 9:15 into the video. The fire occurred around 11:30 a.m. with the fire department called back around 5:00 p.m. after police saw smoke coming from the attic.

Jerry DeMarco, Bergenfield Daily Voice:

Three firefighters had to be treated for heat-related injuries — one of whom was hospitalized — after a cigarette ignited a rapidly-spreading blaze that ripped through a townhouse complex in New Milford on Sunday.

The fire rekindled hours later, requiring firefighters to return to fully douse it.

Two firefighters were treated at the scene, while a third was taken to Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, the lieutenant said.

Abbott Koloff, northjersey.com:

New Milford firefighters responded to the first call at 11:41 a.m. and were at the scene for about 90 minutes, the chief said. He said they returned at about 5 p.m. to douse some still-burning embers when police called them after observing smoke coming from an attic.

The New Milford police did not respond to a request for information.

DeCarlo said the fire was “accidental,” beginning on an outside first-floor deck of Unit No. 12 before spreading upstairs and into the attic.
