Video by Douglas Mcpherson taken at a fire he spotted yesterday in Middleport, New York. Before McPherson's arrival Middleport Police Chief caught four children who were dropped from the second floor into his arms.

The part of this video that gives me a laugh is Firefighter McPherson telling one of the victims to put her phone down from her ear at 1:58 so they can guide her down the ladder safely. She apparently didn't want anything to happen to the phone, so it rescued before she did.

WIVB-TV:

Flames broke out around 9:30 a.m. at the apartment building on Telegraph Road in Middleport. Police Chief John Swick was on patrol when he heard the call go out for a working fire. Once on scene, he was told residents were trapped in Apartment B.

"I was able to kick in the door, but I was met with a wall of black smoke," Chief Swick said.

Both Swick and a Niagara County Sheriff's deputy Shannon Rodgers rushed to the rear of the home, where a woman had opened an upstairs window.

Chief Swick said, "I asked her to climb out and she says, 'Well, I have four children here.' So she starts handing the children out the window and letting them hang down and I was able to catch them. There was a baby, a 2-year-old, a 4- or 5-year-old and a-seven-year-old."

The mother and a second woman then lowered themselves to a first floor roof, and a ladder borrowed from a neighboring home helped get them down.

He had a small ContourROAM camera with him, and strapped it on, before jumping out of his car to help fire crews. He sent us the 10 minute video that you watch above, or on his YouTube page here.
