One Facebook post causes Ohio firefighter to lose jobs with two departments

This is a very rare double SMACSS (Social Media Assisted Career Suicide Syndrome). An Ohio firefighter was fired from jobs with two different fire departments after one Facebook post that has been described as “racially insensitive”.

Bradley Baugh was a lieutenant with the German Township Fire and EMS Department. He lost a job as a Springfield firefighter in March.

Also this week, another German Township firefighter is making news after an off-duty arrest where he is accused of using a racial slur and a gun in threats to tree trimmers outside his home.

Allyson Brown, Springfield News-Sun:

German Twp. trustees voted unanimously to end Bradley Baugh’s employment after an hour-long closed session that included the fire chief, Baugh, lawyers for both parties and the president of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

“The Facebook page that pretty much said it all. So, that was probably the most important piece we had and he also admitted he posted it,” Chief Tim Holman of the German Twp. Fire and EMS Department, said.

A screen shot of the post obtained through a public records request from the Springfield fire division appears to show Baugh shared a meme on March 3 that uses a racial slur, saying they “dropout of school & get a job at McDonald’s talking bout ‘On My Grind’ Yeah, okay, GRIND me up a Oreo Mcflurry with yo (expletive).”
