Gasoline tankers crash and burn on Saturday in Roanoke, VA and Needham, MA

A tanker truck went over an embankment on US 220 in downtown Roanoke Saturday night and burst into flames. The driver was not found.

The truck was apparently carrying 8600 gallons of gasoline. Rhett Fleitz’s pictures and links can be found on VAFireNews.com. Here is the sites description of the firefighting efforts:

Roanoke Firefighters contained the fire from spreading while the allowed the blaze to burn itself out. Little was left of the actual tank besides a puddle of aluminum at the bottom of the hill. Remains of the semi could be seen scattered over an area down the hill. The truck took out a section of guardrail about 100 feet long.
