Caught on video: KY firefighter burned trying to save man who set himself on fire

Major Joe Madden of the Lexington (KY) Fire Department was off-duty Wednesday when stopped to help bystanders put out the flames of a man who poured gasoline on himself and ignited it. Madden was burned on his face and hands. The incident happened at Richmond Road and Fontaine Drive, a very busy intersection.

According to Lexington Police, the man poured gasoline on himself and set himself on fire after getting into an argument with his significant other. That man was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries, according to authorities. His name has not been released.

The Fire Department says Major Madden was off-duty and waiting at the traffic light, when he saw the man catch on fire. 

Major Madden went to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. The Lexington Fire Department says they hope to have Major Madden back at work Thursday.
