The video this week of a firefighter falling off of the rig at a car fire (watch that video here) prompted many stories of embarrassing moments for firefighters. It also prompted one of our readers to send along this video from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today (Tuesday).
Andretti Autosports’ Simona de Silvestro escaped injury when her car caught fire during practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Tuesday afternoon.
De Silvestro climbed out of the car on her own as crews put out the dramatic fire. The fire was caused by a mechanical failure when the fuel buckeye in her Honda-powered car got stuck in the open position.
