Firefighters in Prince George’s County, Maryland battled a house fire that broke out in a large home near Bowie early this morning.

PGFD officials say the blaze was reported by a neighbor around 2:40 AM on Stan Fey Dr. near Queen Anne Road. The first firefighters found a large home with heavy fire showing from the second floor and roof. Officials say the fire-weakened second floor collapsed forcing firefighters to attack the fire from outside. Fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control about 30 to 45 minutes after arriving on scene.

Tankers had to be brought in to help battle the blaze since the over 5500 square-foot home is in an area without fire hydrants.

Fire Department officials say the homeowner had escaped the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

(PGFD also had a 2-alarm apartment fire today in the District Heights area. Hope to add that later in the day.)
