WOOD-TV:

A fire sparked at Fifth Third Ballpark in Plainfield Township Friday morning.

The fire started at around 11 a.m.

Firefighters evacuated within a half hour to go into defensive mode.

The roof started to collapse just before 12 p.m.

Crews confirmed that the fire started in a suite at Fifth Third Ballpark.

A fire is burning at a minor league ballpark in western Michigan.

Video from the scene shows flames and heavy black smoke Friday morning from the suites area at Fifth Third Ballpark near Grand Rapids.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The fire was reported about 11 a.m. and was burning about an hour later. The stadium is the home of the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Class A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.

The Associated Press left phone and email messages seeking information from officials at Fifth Third Ballpark. No one was immediately available at the fire department in Kent County's Plainfield Township, the lead agency on the fire, to provide information.
