In Edmonton, a fire that began in a condo complex under construction quickly spread to occupied homes. It is believed to be one of the largest residential fires in Edmonton’s history. Watch early videos of fire here, here and here. Details about the fire can be found here, here and here.

Edmonton Fire Chief Randy Wolsey says the fire is proof building codes need to be changed. But that is an alarm he has sounded many times before.

3 EMTs, 2 civilians dead after Ohio crash.

UPDATE: The Beacon Journal of Akron reports the Ohio State Patrol says the ambulance driver “slowed down but failed to cautiously enter a rural intersection”. More here. Also, an updated article from the Toledo Blade is here.

Video now available, along with updated stories from Paulding County, Ohio. Three members of the Antwerp EMS Squad and two civilians were killed when the ambulance they were in was hit broadside by a tractor-trailer Friday evening. At the time of the crash, the civilians were being transported to the hospital from a previous accident. News reports say their relatives were following the ambulance to the hospital and witnessed the crash. The wife of the only EMS worker to survive the crash was among those killed:

FF/P Mary Beth Rollins was off-duty when she fell 65 feet from the roof of a Baltimore museum. Details on the unusual circumstances surrounding her death, along with funeral arrangements can be found here.

Kentland VFD confirms Nick Martin is back.

Four days after we first reported the news, Kentland’s website has pictures and a story that acknowledges Lt. Nick Martin’s return. Seventeen months ago, Lt. Martin got the boot because of a shoving and yelling incident caught on video. A judge ruled Martin didn’t get due process. While that due process is underway, Nick Martin is allowed to run calls.

Philadelphia Mayor to the rescue, sort of.

Mayor John Street and 2 bodyguards spotted the smoke as they walked to City Hall. They help a victim and a cat is rescued.

The Trinidad Fire Department profiled.

Maybe they should just open their own TV station on channel 501.

While some have questioned whether I know anything at all about firefighting, I hope they will at least acknowledge I have some expertise about television. With that in mind, I urge anyone in fire and EMS interested in doing videos for their department to check out the latest offering from Manassas VFD. The camera work
on Mike Lesnick’s “Old Town Style” is top notch. Some great angles as the fire trucks roll down the road. Very dramatic.
