Engine wrecks on way to working fire in Virginia

A press release from Lt. Mark Stone, Stafford County Fire & Rescue Department (Lt. Stone reports the engine damaged last night was a “reserve” engine):

Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2008 in the Aquia District of the county. The two-story single family structure is located at 1 Rolling Brook Court.

First arriving personnel from Company 2 (Stafford) reported fire visible from the first and second floors of the structure and began an immediate attack on the fire. Additional resources were requested due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area, bringing a second alarms to the incident to include multiple Stafford County companies as well as units from Quantico and King George, and a fire boat from Charles County, Maryland to assist with water supply. The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.

One firefighter received a minor injury at the incident and was treated on the scene.

Stafford County Fire Marshals estimate the damages at $335,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

While responding to the incident, Engine 4 (Mountain View) was involved in a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Brooke Road and Eskimo Hill Road. The crew of 3 volunteer firefighters was not injured.
