A Stockton man was arrested in Richmond late Saturday for suspicion of attempted murder in the drive-by shooting incident that injured a firefighter and a paramedic in Antioch.

The arrest followed a pursuit that traversed two counties and ended moments after the suspect’s vehicle collided with a parked vehicle in Richmond. Antioch police have not yet released the suspect’s name or age.

The incident began shortly before 9 p.m., when Contra Costa firefighters and an ambulance from American Medical Response responded to a call for someone requiring medical attention in a parking lot in the 1900 block of Auto Center Drive.

A firefighter and a paramedic responding to an emergency call were wounded late Saturday night when on unknown gunman opened fire in a drive-by shooting, authorities said.

Moments after they arrived, gunfire erupted from a passing vehicle at 9:08 p.m. A Contra Costa County firefighter was shot in the foot and a paramedic was shot in the leg.

“I was continuous shooting,” a bystander told KPIX 5. “Bam, bam, bam — like that. I felt nervous because you hear shots but you couldn’t tell where they were coming from…I just saw all the police coming. It was terrible.”

All three people were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Investigators have not released any suspect information or why the gunman would have opened fire on the emergency crew.
